Thought I'd pass along a little more news - some good, some not so good - about our Camp family. On the heels of the news of Willie Davis’ passing, we learned today of another passing. This time it is the son of former Dodger pitcher Tommy John. On a brighter note however, we also got the word today that another former Dodger pitcher, Burt Hooton is cancer free. Thanks to DTW member Paul Raymond for the updates.
Tommy and his wife Sally are the proud parents of of four children, daughter Tamara Mannelly (35), Tommy John (32), Travis John (31), and Taylor John (28). Taylor struggled with depression for many years and finally lost that battle on March 9, 2010 at the young age of 28.
Funeral Services for Taylor will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 991 South Waukegan Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045. Visitation 1:00 p.m. -2:00 p.m. Funeral service 2:00 pm
If you'd like to make a donation in Taylor's name, the family is recommending the following two organizations:
(1). St. Patrick's Catholic Church Choir, 991 South Waukegan Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045 where Taylor sang in the choir, was a cantor and a soloist. He loved singing and being a part of this special place.
(2).
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance where the family has set up a memorial fund in his name.
Tommy extends thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers as their family goes through this very difficult time. Tommy and Sally can be reached at 6202 Seton House Lane, Charlotte, NC 28277.
As for Burt "Happy" Hooton, Paul says that Ginger Hooton, Burt's wife, relayed the good news. She wanted to thank each and everyone for sending along their thoughts and prayers. In Ginger's words, "We are elated and so thankful. We are in spring training now and Burt is so glad to be back on the field, I am sure you can relate. He has even started to grow a little peach fuzz back on his bald head!!" The Hootons can be reached at 3619 Granby Court, San Antonio, TX 78217
