There's still time to get in on the Fifth Annual ?Melee in Mesa? sponsored by our Giants friends up north. The tournament dates are January 21-24, 2010 with a Scramble Golf Tournament on Thursday, January 21 and baseball games beginning on Friday, January 22. As in the past, this should be a good one so don't miss out.
Get ready for baseball in Arizona this coming January! The West Coast Fantasy Baseball Association is pleased to announce the fifth annual "Melee in Mesa" Fantasy Baseball Tournament from January 21-24, 2010. Again, we will be using the three-field Gene Autry Sports Complex in Mesa, Arizona for this event. The complex used to serve as the minor league home for the Angels for several years, but fantasy baseball will take center stage on our weekend.
The following camps have been invited to send teams to this year's tournament:
Most teams will play two games on Friday, one on Saturday, and one on getaway day, Sunday. That is a total of four games per team. To get all the games in on time, we will employ the following rules:
Games will be restricted to two hours and 30 minutes each (if an inning starts before the time limit, it will be completed)
Players will use wood bats (exceptions being ladies and players 60 years of age and older)
AT THE GENE AUTRY SPORTS COMPLEX
The Gene Autry Sports Complex is owned and operated by the City of Mesa. While on the grounds of the facility, there is NO SMOKING, NO DRINKING OF ALCOHOL, and NO PETS. Please abide by these rules or we may lose our playing privileges at the complex for now and future dates.
We will have access to the locker room and shower facilities. Each player will have their own personal locker. The facility will be locked at night so you may store your equipment there at your own risk. Laundry and towel service is available on Friday and Saturday. A catered lunch is provided on Friday and Saturday at the baseball complex. All of this will be supervised by our own clubhouse manager, Troy Timney!
THURSDAY SCRAMBLE GOLF TOURNAMENT AND DINNER
Before we get started with our baseball, some campers will be playing in a golf tournament on Thursday, January 21st. We will be playing at the Arizona Golf Resort within the Mesa city limits. The deadline to signup for this event is Thursday, January 7th. We will have a 1:00pm 'shotgun' start so those of you who want to play can still fly into Arizona on Thursday morning. All tournament players, significant others, and guests are welcome to play. The tournament will feature a scramble format so it doesn't matter how good or bad a golfer you are. Just come out and have some fun!
$120 is the cost per golfer and that buys you the following:
- Green fees
- Bucket of range balls
- BBQ dinner starting at 5:30pm (extra dinners for non-golfers are - $35 each)
Fifteen sets of rental golf clubs are available for $33 each. Call in advance to reserve clubs at 1-800-528-8282 (ask for the pro shop).
IMPORTANT : Golf is being coordinated by a separate group of players and should be paid for separately from your baseball fees.
Please send checks made payable to:
517 Latigo Row

SATURDAY NIGHT BANQUET AND ENTERTAINMENT
The Saturday night banquet will be held at the Arizona Golf Resort facility. Dinner cost for players will be included in the tournament fee. All extra dinners are $45 a piece. If any children 12 and under are attending, let us know and we will get you a price.
No-host cocktail hour starts at 6:00pm followed by dinner at 7:00pm. Dinner will be buffet style. The entire dinner menu will be published soon, but plan on at least three main dishes including one vegetarian. Salad, fruits, cheeses, bread, coffee, tea, decaf, and dessert will all be part of the menu and are included in the price.
Dinner will be followed by entertainment. We've had comedians and hypnotists in the past. Another fine show has been selected for you all so please stay and partake. I think you will be very impressed.
